Vintage U.S. Navy Lieutenant Junior Grade (Lt. j.g.) shoulder board insignia. This type of insignia was used during the World War II era. The black leather strap is stamped with the manufacturer's name, "S.MARS, Inc. N.Y.". It also includes the patent number "U.S. PAT. 2420257".
