An original Swiss M1918 (M18) combat helmet. It was introduced into service by the Swiss military in 1924 and used until the M1971 replacement. The helmet's design was influenced by German WWI helmets, featuring a distinct shape with a downward slope to cover the ears and neck. The M18/40 variant, introduced in 1940, featured improvements and a change to the black textured paint finish seen here in June 1943. Over 600,000 units were produced, and they were used by Swiss servicemen well into the late 20th century.
