This lot includes two 1893 Columbian Exposition half dollars, celebrated as the first commemorative coins issued in the United States. These coins were struck for the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, marking the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus' voyage. Each coin bears Columbus' portrait on the obverse and his flagship, the Santa Maria, on the reverse.
