Bronze statue by Official Texas State Sculpture Add Hayes. Spur rowels rotate. Mounted on a rotating wooden base that measures 17" diameter. Overall height approximately 38" tall. Rifle protrudes approximately 10" beyond the edge of the base. Edd Hayes received the honor of The Official Texas State Sculptor by The Texas Legislature. This honor was bestowed, based on the scope of his work along with attention to his portrayal of the history and rich heritage of Texas. Involvement with community , civic and charitable organizations were other factors. Hayes is best known for his life sized sculptures “Wild and Free” which is still on display at the Houston Astrodome and “The Champ” which is immortalized in front of The Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado.
