5 shelves. This folds up flat for transport and storage. We bought a huge MCM wall unit and it no longer fits in with our teak decor. So it must go! This is not an antique, I remember buying it when my kids were little to hold their books we kept in the family room. Once the youngest went off to college, it became my miniature collection holder. It is strong and sturdy. 4 ft tall x 14.5 inch wide x 8 inch deep
