Two sets of hand-painted wooden Russian nesting dolls including one artist-signed folklore series and one traditional floral set. The five-piece folklore set features finely detailed illustrations of Russian characters and scenes, including a bogatyr warrior on a white horse, a maiden at a pier, Baba Yaga with her mortar and broom, a legendary memorial stone, and a crow. These narrative scenes are accented with gold leaf borders, while the reverse of each doll is decorated with a multi-colored floral bouquet. The base of the largest doll in this set is hand-signed in white ink with the Cyrillic characters ????? 5, which transliterates to Veres 5.
