WWII US Navy WAVES & Red Cross Nurse Photo Grouping. Attributed to Nurse Schakel. Includes named photos of WAVES members, Schakel's family, friends, and other volunteers, with notes and dates from 1936 to 1945. Also includes uniform buttons, Cadet Nurse patches, lapel pins, cap badge, cufflinks, sweetheart letters, family photos, cards, and more. Nurse Schakel was from Cedar Rapids, Michigan. She attended a Christian women's high school. She eventually joined the Red Cross and WAVES. Pictured in uniform in photos alongside her husband, Harry, from 1943 through to 1945. Size: 7" x 5" Condition: Nearly all photos have writing and dates written over them in pen, with light tears and stains on the corners. 1/4" hole in Cadet Nurse patch.
