Coin Breakdown 1964 (90% Silver): Minted only in 1964 with a high silver content before the composition changed. 1965–1970 (40% Silver): Transition period featuring a silver-clad outer layer bonded to a core. 1971–Present (Clad): Replaced silver entirely with a copper-nickel alloy bonded to a pure copper core. 1976 Bicentennial (Clad): Special dual-date (1776–1976) design celebrating the U.S. Bicentennial.
