ANTIQUE ROCKINGHAM BRAMELD CHINA TEA SERVICE

Updated September 10, 2026

An extensive and rare early 19th-century English porcelain tea service by Rockingham Works (Brameld), dated circa 1830-1842. Decorated in a monochrome grey / black transfer-printed pattern featuring continuous foliate fronds and scrolling swags, highlighted with fine gilded accents. Designed in the ornate Rococo Revival taste with shell-and-scroll handles, scalloped rims, flower bud lid finials, and pedestal foot rings. Some saucers bearing the printed purple factory mark featuring the Rockingham griffin alongside the text Rockingham Works / Brameld / Manufacturer to the King, together with red painted pattern / painter numbers (1521). The service includes: teapot with lid, covered sugar bowl, creamer / milk jug, waste bowl (slop bowl) with under tray, 8 teacups and saucers. Condition noted: displays minor age-appropriate rubbing to the gilt highlights, light wear to the unglazed foot rings, and minor shelf wear consistent with age; overall in exceptional antique condition for its period.
