Civil War Union soldier family archive of 7 handwritten letters, 1861–1863, associated with the Kepcha family of Illinois. Includes firsthand writings describing the Battle of Fort Donelson, battlefield dead and wounded, prisoners taken, military movements, and the reported capture of his brother Henry, along with hospital correspondence and family news. Includes correspondence associated with Peter and Henry Kepcha, Co. H, 41st Illinois Infantry. Peter Kepcha participated in Fort Donelson and later died from wounds received at the Battle of Shiloh; Henry Kepcha was reported missing in action at Fort Donelson on February 15, 1862. Seven letters total. All are shown in photographs and exhibit expected age, folds, staining, fading, tears and other wear. Please review all photographs for condition and content.
