Original watercolor, ink wash, and graphite on paper. Late 18th to Early 19th Century (circa 1790–1830). A classic European or British countryside scene featuring a horse-drawn carriage traveling past a thatched-roof cottage, with a herdsman guiding cattle and figures walking in the foreground. Provenance: Includes a historical handwritten note attached to the backing frame tracing the piece to the prominent Scottish family of John Spottiswoode (1565–1639), Archbishop of St Andrews and Lord Chancellor of Scotland. Indicates descent through the Spottiswoode family estate.
