Two large oval serving trays in silverplate, both in the traditional hollowware style that stayed in production from the early through the middle of the twentieth century, and both measuring roughly 23 inches long by 16 inches wide. (1) The first has a shaped and reeded rim with two pierced open handles and a hand engraved script initial in the well; the underside is marked E.P.N.S. with the words W.M. MOUNTS and the number 1124, while the maker name above that line is not legible in the photos. E.P.N.S. stands for electroplated nickel silver, meaning a nickel alloy base with a plated silver surface, so these trays are plated and not solid sterling. (2) The second is a plain oval with a reeded rim and an applied gold-tone script monogram plaque; its underside is stamped S 2 13/20 along with N.S. and a row of five square pseudo hallmarks of the kind plate makers used to echo British silver marks. Both are heavily tarnished with dark rings and fine scratching in the wells, and neither shows dents, splits or plating worn through to the base metal. Condition is fair and both should respond well to polishing. Sold as-is. Photos are the most accurate description of this lot. Written descriptions are a guide only and may contain errors.
