Republic Legion of Honour Medal.

6.9*4.0cm Wt:18.2g
At the centre of the medal's obverse stands Marianne, the female allegorical figure of the French Republic. Inscribed in French upon the band of blue enamel surrounding her effigy: REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE 1870. The medal is formed as a white?enamelled Maltese five?pointed star. A circlet of green?enamel oak and laurel foliage encircles its split points. The bifurcated star points draw inspiration from the Maltese Cross and the design conventions of old French royal chivalric orders. The upper segments of each star point are likewise decorated with interwoven green?enamel oak and laurel wreaths. The reverse is centred by two crossed French national flags, encircled by the French motto: HONNEUR ET PATRIE (Honour and Fatherland). Established in 1802 by Napoleon in his capacity as First Consul to replace the feudal nobility system of the ancien r??gime, this is France's highest state?awarded distinction. It embodies French military and civil merit and ranks among the world's most celebrated orders of chivalry. The L??gion d'honneur constitutes an honorary society encompassing military personnel and civilians who rendered outstanding service to the French Republic, while the L??gion d'honneur medal serves as the emblem of its members' glory and reputation.

ALL PROPERTY IS SOLD AS IS, WHERE IS, WITH NO RETURNS, REFUNDS, OR CANCELLATIONS.

Condition and Authenticity:

Any statement in the catalogue, condition report, photographs, video, invoice, or other written or oral communication regarding the origin, date, age, attribution, authorship, authenticity, provenance, material, condition, or estimated selling price of any lot is a statement of opinion only.
