with Hermit Portrait, Cobalt Blue and Gilt Decoration .

D:24cm
Deep within a mountain grotto, an elderly hermit with long white hair and beard is draped in a brown monk's robe, poring over an unfurled scroll and cupping one ear to ponder intently. The hermit motif originates from religious and philosophical art widely popular across Europe between the 17th and 19th centuries, symbolizing asceticism, contemplation, the pursuit of knowledge and seclusion from worldly chaos, and was extensively adapted for fine porcelain painting by royal manufactories. This is a master hand-painted Meissen cabinet display plate, not mass-produced transfer-printed ware. Layered enamel glazes in an oil-painting style create nuanced chiaroscuro on the facial features, natural folds of the robe and mountain woodland backdrop, representing the pinnacle standard of high-end decorative porcelain of the 19th century.

ALL PROPERTY IS SOLD AS IS, WHERE IS, WITH NO RETURNS, REFUNDS, OR CANCELLATIONS.

Condition and Authenticity:

Any statement in the catalogue, condition report, photographs, video, invoice, or other written or oral communication regarding the origin, date, age, attribution, authorship, authenticity, provenance, material, condition, or estimated selling price of any lot is a statement of opinion only.
