REDDY KILOWATT - YOUR ELECTRIC SERVANT, LIT UP IN NEON Reddy Kilowatt was created in 1926 as the friendly face of electric utilities and went on to appear on bills, trucks, and signs for power companies across the country. He has never looked better than in neon: this 36-inch can shows Reddy with his lightning-bolt limbs and light-bulb nose glowing in red and yellow. A favorite of advertising collectors and a conversation piece anywhere it hangs. REAL NEON. REAL PORCELAIN. MADE THE OLD WAY. This is authentic neon: hand-blown, hand-bent glass tubes, vacuum-sealed and filled with noble gas, lit by a high-voltage neon transformer. It is the same warm, living glow that hung over service stations and dealerships in the golden age of the American roadside. The face is real kiln-fired porcelain enamel on a heavy steel can, made with the same traditional techniques and authentic materials as the porcelain signs in this sale. Built to outlast you: the transformer will wear out long before the glass does. Replace the transformer and a well-kept neon sign will glow for 50-plus years.
