1938-S Mercury Dime (Winged Liberty Head) “Broken Nose”The feature you noted is a die state commonly called the “broken nose” (or missing nose bridge). It results from aggressive die polishing at the mint, which wore away the design detail where Liberty’s nose meets the forehead/bridge.
