This pair of decorative wall panels is representative of late 20th-century Soviet folk art, manufactured at the artistic inlay factory in Zhlobin within the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic. Each panel is constructed from a dark-toned wood support decorated with intricate straw inlay and wood marquetry. The first panel depicts a male and female figure in traditional Belarusian folk dress, with the man playing a flute-like instrument and the woman holding a branch. The second panel, titled Panno Pryakha (Spinner Panel), illustrates a woman seated at a spinning wheel with a bird perched nearby. The designs are rendered in a highly stylised, geometric manner, using the natural lustre of straw along with dyed red and black accents to represent traditional textile embroidery patterns. The verso of the spinner panel retains an original paper factory label in Cyrillic, providing the item name, design number 270, and a production date of July 1978. The companion panel is stamped MADE IN USSR and ARTICLE C-20. Height measured against a tape measure approx. 14.5 inches; Widths approx. 7.5 inches and 9.75 inches (note: only inches shown on tape). Condition: Both panels are in good original condition, preserved within their original clear plastic protective wrapping. There is no visible evidence of loss, fading, or surface damage to the straw inlay or wood supports.
