This handsome upholstered parlor armchair with coordinating ottoman features Victorian and Rococo Revival styling, combining a sculptural exposed wood frame with rich deep red upholstery. The chair has an elegant tall, rounded balloon-form back framed in molded and carved wood, creating a graceful silhouette reminiscent of 19th-century French-inspired parlor furniture. The upholstered arms curve gently outward and terminate in scrolling exposed wood supports, while the shaped seat rail and cabriole-style legs continue the flowing, ornamental design. The matching footstool carries the same red upholstery and shaped wood frame, with a softly contoured apron and coordinating curved legs. The deep red textured upholstery is especially striking against the warm dark wood finish and gives the chair a dramatic, traditional appearance. Unlike many surviving parlor chairs of this type, the upholstery presents very nicely and the chair retains an attractive, well-cared-for appearance overall. Both the chair and ottoman are structurally sound and in very good vintage condition, with the wood frame showing only minor surface wear, scuffs, and finish variation consistent with age and use. Upholstery is clean and intact overall with no major visible tears or significant staining noted. Chair measures approximately 34" H x 29" W. Matching ottoman included.
