Struck from 1 troy ounce of four-nines (.9999) fine silver, the 2012 Canadian Cougar Silver Coin is the third release in the Royal Canadian Mint's acclaimed six-coin Canadian Wildlife Series. Designed by Senior Mint Engraver William Woodruff, the reverse captures a fierce cougar perched atop a fallen tree branch with its front paws planted and jaws open in a defensive growl against a mountainous wilderness backdrop. Surrounding the artwork are crisp inscriptions detailing the country of issue, metal weight, and purity: "CANADA," "9999," and "FINE SILVER 1 OZ ARGENT PUR". The obverse displays the classic effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt, along with the "5 DOLLARS" legal tender face value and the "2012" issue date. Strict mintage limits of just 1,000,000 pieces worldwide, coupled with the RCM's industry-leading silver purity, make this coin a standout semi-numismatic piece for collectors and silver stackers alike.
