Virgin Mary, Framed. 19th-century oil painting on copper depicting the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, with the sleeping Virgin surrounded by mourners in gestures of grief, prayer, and tender concern. The composition may derive from an earlier Italian Baroque model. The work is unsigned and presented within a hessian mat and tarnished gilt frame. The painting measures 7.9 x 11.2 inches, with a framed size of 11.0 x 15.2 inches. Light surface soiling and minor abrasions are present, along with light wear to the frame.
