ABV1600 A finely worked pair of antique brass vases, likely originating from the Indo-Persian decorative tradition of the late 19th to early 20th century. Each vase features a flared, undulating rim rising from a faceted baluster-form body, set on a stepped circular foot. The surfaces are richly adorned with intricate hand-engraved floral and foliate motifs arranged in vertical panels, interspersed with stylized vegetal bands and borders. These engraved designs are further enhanced with remnants of polychrome enamel—deep reds, muted blues, and warm ochres—creating a subtle yet sophisticated contrast against the golden brass ground. The faceted bodies and dense ornamental program reflect a synthesis of Mughal-inspired design and export craftsmanship, typical of decorative metalwork produced for both domestic use and the Western market during the colonial period. Bases appear to bear faint stamped markings consistent with workshop production, though not clearly legible, suggesting artisanal manufacture rather than later mass production.
