Orriginal 1969 Woodstock Music & Art Fair poster advertising the festival at its originally planned location in Wallkill, New York. Designed by Arnold Skolnick, this scarce early version features his iconic dove-and-guitar imagery together with the Wallkill location, August 15-17 dates, and an extraordinary lineup including Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Who, Grateful Dead, Santana, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jefferson Airplane, Joe Cocker, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Joan Baez, Arlo Guthrie, Richie Havens, The Band, Johnny Winter, and others. This unusual poster documents a pivotal moment in Woodstock history. The festival advertised here never took place in Wallkill. After local opposition prevented the event from proceeding at the planned site, organizers relocated Woodstock to Max Yasgur's farm in Bethel, New York, where the legendary festival ultimately took place. This example was reportedly actually posted on a telephone pole and later removed, an especially appropriate survival for this rare promotional version. It has since been professionally linen-backed for preservation and custom framed. The visible wear and weathering reflect its history as a period-used advertising poster rather than an unused example. A remarkably rare survivor from the weeks leading up to Woodstock and an exceptional piece of American music and counterculture history. Poster 28" x 13"; frame 31 1/2" x 16 1/2".
