Important large fired clay Crèche made by local resident Marjorie Winslow measuring 14"H x 13"W x 9"D. Although the origin of the Christmas Crèche is unknown, according to legent, Saint Francis of Assisi created a nativity scene in Crèche (French for crib) in Italy dating 1223. The first record of a Crèche is in 1562 when the nativity scene was placed in a Jesuit church in Prague.
