A.B. Frost (1851-1928) Ink on paper Illustration Roughly 2.5" x 6" Framed 10.75" x 14" Professionally reframed in 1988 A. B. Frost (1851–1928) was one of America's foremost illustrators of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and an important figure in American sporting art. Born in Philadelphia, Frost studied briefly with Thomas Eakins and William Merritt Chase and became a longtime member of the Harper & Brothers art staff. He illustrated more than ninety books and contributed extensively to Harper's Weekly, Scribner's, Life, and other leading publications. Frost was an avid sportsman, and hunting, shooting, fishing, and golf were recurring subjects throughout his career. His highly detailed pen-and-ink drawings are particularly admired for their observation of movement, animals, and rural American life.Provenance: Private Collection, NJ acquired in 1988 from Ernest Hickok, Summit, NJ
