Jimmie A. Vizier (1933-2010) Galiano, LA, 2000 Hen 16.5" Drake 19.5" Signed and dated 2000, Hollow carved with the original competition tape on the bottom. Both heads are turned slightly to the left. Southwest of New Orleans, along Bayou LaFourche in Louisiana's delta region, lies Galliano, the hometown of one of the state's most prominent carving families, the Viziers. Growing up in a crowded houseboat, Jimmie Vizier was surrounded by the tradition of decoy making, first learning the craft by watching his father carve them by the dozens. A third-generation carver, Jimmie inherited the skills mastered by his father and grandfather, and his working decoys went on to win several Best in Show awards at the World Championships. Deeply connected to the water, he left school at the age of twelve to work on his father's fishing boat and later spent much of his life working on shrimp and tugboats throughout the Gulf of Mexico.Condition: Near mint, both hen and drake have a few tiny spots of paint flake on tailProvenance: J.
