A. Elmer Crowell (1862-1952) East Harwich, MA 2.75" tall Pre-rectangular stamp example identified by the small and irregularly base typical of earlier miniature carvings in addition to the way in which it is painted. Excellent dry surface with bold paint. Underside bears the blue paper label with 'Gooseander' written in the label by Elmer. Gooseander was a common period term for the American Merganser.Condition: Near mint, tiny paint loss at tip of wing tipsProvenance: J. Lindsay Fuller Collection
