25 1/2" by 26 1/2" by 12". Pond’s Extract was an American patent-medicine preparation developed by pharmacist Theron T. Pond in 1846. Made primarily from witch hazel, it was marketed for wounds, bruises, burns, sprains, and a wide variety of other ailments. Although witch hazel has genuine astringent properties, Pond’s was promoted with exaggerated claims typical of the patent-medicine era, but was not simply a fraudulent or worthless remedy. The Pond’s Extract Company later expanded into cold cream and cosmetics, becoming the foundation of the modern Pond’s skincare brand.
