Mechi of London label. This box is crafted from coromandel, an exotic wood and inlaid with mother-of-pearl. The top compartment has MOP thread spools, needle cases, and is fitted for many more items that are no longer present. Both pairs of scissors are broken as is the long slender tool at the back. A calendar with days of the week pages between MOP covers has a broken hinge. The 1st drawer is currently empty other than some bits of veneer and inlay that have been saved ther. 2nd drawer is empty but has a lift-out tray fitted for some sort of utensils or tools and another divided tray underneath that. The 3rd drawer pulls out entirely as a lap desk, complete with inkwells, letter opener, and a quill holder. Inside the lift-top lid is a hidden compartment with a folder for documents or perhaps sewing patterns. The whole thing measures 14 x 11 inches by about 12 1/4 inches high. Lots of missing items, significant losses to veneer and inlay. No key.
