Title: Surrealist Interior with Eggs Technique: Oil on canvas Measures: 28 x 24 inches (71.1 x 61 cm) Year: 1931 Condition: Good condition. The painted surface presents smooth tonal transitions, controlled detail, and strong color saturation throughout. Minor surface wear, scattered marks, and handling wear consistent with age may be present. The canvas appears stable and display-ready, retaining its atmospheric character and overall presentation. Presented in a gilt frame. Provenance: From a private collection. According to verbal history supplied by the previous owner, the work was discovered in the garage of a residence in Seville, Spain, in 1998 and subsequently retained in private hands. Supporting documentation from the time of discovery is unavailable. The above provenance reflects the ownership history that accompanied the artwork at the time it was received for cataloging. Visual Description: This enigmatic Surrealist composition presents a sparse green interior opening onto a distant landscape. A fried egg rests on a dark plate atop a narrow table, while several egg-like forms float or remain suspended in the surrounding space. The largest shell is broken open and releases long, viscous white strands, creating an unsettling transformation of an ordinary object. At left, a dark architectural structure contains a sequence of receding doorways and a small silhouetted figure. Additional suspended forms, cracks, stains, and sharply defined shadows heighten the scene’s dreamlike tension and psychological ambiguity. Bears an inscription reading “Dalí 1931” near the lower right. This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
