This lot is for two beautiful matching vintage Chinese carved cinnabar lacquer pieces. One is a lidded ginger jar and the other is a tall vase. They both feature a vibrant red peony floral relief carving design set against a textured black geometric background. Ginger jar measures 8” tall x 3.5” base. Vase measures 15” Tall x 4” base. No markings on either one to indicate where or when they were created. Cinnabar lacquer is a traditional Asian art form. Workers brush dozens to hundreds of thin layers of tree-sap lacquer mixed with red cinnabar mineral powder onto a base. They then carve detailed pictures or patterns into the hardened red layers.
