“The Vigilante” Statue By Daniel Monfort

Excellent selection of a piece of Western Americana art, perfect for collectors. The title of the piece is entitled “The Vigilante” and it was produced by artist Daniel Monfort. The piece captures the raw rugged essence of the American frontier, depicting a lone lawman or enforcer. As the artist was known for his incredible attention to texture, the piece showcases this here directly with heavy folds in the jacket, creases of the cowboy hat, and the fine details of the weaponry. Daniel Monfort was born in France in 1942 and developed a deep passion for fine art and classical sculpting techniques during his youth. Captivated by stories and films of the American frontier, he immigrated to the United States as a young adult to pursue his artistic vision. In the late 1970s, he established his famous ”Monfort Sculpture Studio”, a commercial art studio based out of Boulder, Colorado. Unlike traditional sculptors who worked exclusively with hot-cast bronze, Monfort pioneered the use of Hydrostone, a premium and high-density gypsum cement. This material allowed him to capture incredibly intricate textures. This piece is made of Hydrostone, which is a heavy but brittle medium. It is then painted to give a much-desired metallic bronze overlay finish. The overall statue measures approx. 16” H x 6” W and holds a decent amount of weight to make it comparable to hot-cast bronze in presentation. The front portion of the piece features the wording “The Vigilante” imprinted within the piece. The back portion showcases “D. Monfort” and the year “1982”, notating the artist and year produced. It appears that due to its early date, this appears to be a first-run Monfort classic. Due to the size and weight, we cannot ship this item.
