Measures 5 inches tall. The pitcher's shape, hand-hammered finish, and reinforced base look very much like traditional European (often French or English) tavern jugs or measures dating from the mid-to-late 1800s. Cross-Braced Support: The base features an applied copper or brass cross-brace soldered onto the flat bottom. This was a classic construction technique used on larger copper vessels, pitchers, and jugs during the 19th and early 20th centuries. It reinforces the base so it doesn't bow out or warp when filled with heavy liquids like water, cider, or ale. Verdigris Patina: The distinct green buildup is verdigris patina, a natural result of the copper and solder reacting to moisture, air, and acids over many decades. Handmade Construction: The slight asymmetry of the cross strips and the unevenly pooled solder tell us this base reinforcement was done entirely by hand.
