Dated 1907 Hand-Embroidered Silk and Velvet Crazy Quilt with Family Signatures, approx 6' x 7' A late Victorian style antique crazy quilt dated 1907. The piece is constructed from a variety of luxury and utilitarian fabric patches, including weighted silk, velvet, satin, wool, and cotton, arranged in an irregular patchwork pattern. The entire composition is finished with a wide black textile border. Every seam is embellished with elaborate hand-embroidered decorative stitching, including feather, briar, and herringbone stitches. The quilt features extensive figurative hand-embroidery including two crossed tennis rackets with a ball, birds in flight, a butterfly, stars, sunburst motifs, and numerous botanical sprays such as daisies and floral stems.

Several embroidered inscriptions and signatures are visible on the face of the quilt. The date 1907 is hand-embroidered in red-brown thread. A cream-colored embroidered script reads Jos & Mary Hoffman. Another signature in multi-colored thread (blue, pink, cream, and tan) reads George and Blanche Barnes. The name Blanche is also embroidered separately on a different patch. Additional marks include the embroidered initials F. H. on a dark patch and the individual letters E, O, and R on a dark blue patch. The quilt is a handmade piece with no manufacturer or maker labels visible.
