Elaborate antique French gilt bronze figural compote dated 23, Avril 1868. This may be presentation prize trophy or a award. The Academie des sciences, belles-lettres et arts de Bordeaux gave out prizes on April 23, 1868. Bronze basin with applied portrait medallions and cast lion head handles. The top with a beautifully cast figural bird finial. Original fire gilt finish. Please note: the birds top beak end is chipped and bottom is bent. Some light wear to lid top. 6 1/2 x 8" tall approx.
