Rare U.S. Navy Patrol Squadron 49 VP-49 military Zippo Lighter. The wheel spins freely. Pat 2517191 This emblem depicts the first official insignia used by Patrol Squadron 49 (VP-49) of the U.S. Navy from 1951 until 1962. History: Approved by the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) after the squadron was redesignated from VP-MS-9 in 1951, this design was used while the unit operated seaplanes (such as the PBM-5S2 and P5M-1 Marlin) out of bases like NAS Bermuda before they transitioned to the P-3 Orion and adopted their later "Woodpeckers" emblem.
