Ned Ray McWherter – 1984 Volunteer Distributing Presentation Belt Buckle – Handmade & Hand Engraved – One-of-One An extraordinary and deeply personal piece from the life of Tennessee Governor Ned Ray McWherter! This 1984 Volunteer Distributing presentation belt buckle was specially created and presented to Ned Ray McWherter. The buckle is from the Ned Silversmith Collection and is handmade and hand engraved, making it an impressive piece of craftsmanship in its own right. The significance of Volunteer Distributing to McWherter's life makes this piece particularly special. Before becoming Governor of Tennessee, McWherter was involved in the beer distribution business and Volunteer Distributing Company in Dresden, Tennessee, giving this presentation piece a direct connection to his business career and West Tennessee roots. According to the history accompanying the Governor's estate, this buckle was made specifically for McWherter and only one was produced. It was not a general promotional buckle or mass-produced company souvenir — this was HIS presentation piece. Dated 1984, the buckle predates McWherter's election as Governor and represents an important chapter of his life before he occupied Tennessee's highest office. A TRUE ONE-OF-A-KIND McWHERTER ARTIFACT Date: 1984 Company: Volunteer Distributing Recipient: Ned Ray McWherter Maker/Collection: Ned Silversmith Collection Construction: Handmade & Hand Engraved History: Special presentation piece made for McWherter Rarity: According to estate provenance, only one was made Provenance: From the personal estate of Ned Ray McWherter, 46th Governor of Tennessee (1987–1995). Quite possibly one of the most personal and unique Ned Ray McWherter pieces offered in this auction!
