A massive species known as the "widowmaker" due to the significant hazard posed by falling cones. It is recognized by its large size—often reaching 12 inches in length—and its sharp, hook-like scales. These cones are native to the coastal mountains of Southern California and Baja California and are often used for rustic holiday decor or crafts.They are among the heaviest pine cones in the world, sometimes weighing up to 10 pounds. Tallest one measures 9 inches.
