This is a hand-carved Haitian mahogany sculpture created by Samuel Senatus (signed on the bottom), showing two figures, a man and a woman carrying a loaded basket to the drumbeat played by the man with one hand. Samuel Senatus is a known Haitian woodcarver whose sculptures feature elongated bodies, stylized faces, themes of cooperative labor, and single-stock carvings.
