This is a sylized hand-carved Tagua nut head portrait featuring geometric facial planes, simplified features consistent with carvings of this type. The tagua nut comes from the Phytelephas palm. When dried it becomes extremely hard, smooth and ivory-colored. Slight cracking is typical of tagua as it ages. Origin: Ecuador or Columbia Age: 1940s-70s - 50-80 years old Condition: Good, Cracking consistent with age of source material - no other damage Dimensions: 7.5" H x 2.75"L x 2.25"W weight; 1lb 7oz
