This auction lot features an authentic vintage hand-quilted patchwork textile quilt displaying the traditional Rob Peter to Pay Paul pattern, also recognized as a variation of the classic Orange Peel design. The two-tone graphic layout features alternating curved patches crafted from a red fabric with white polka dots, juxtaposed against cream cotton segments displaying delicate blue or black pinstripes. A wide outer border in a coordinating red fabric with a black floral vine calico print frames the entire composition, while the background reveals dense, concentric hand-quilted wave stitching paths that give the textile a beautiful crinkled texture. The reverse backing is constructed from a solid off-white muslin cotton fabric that cleanly highlights the intricate hand-stitched needlework. This historic piece shows an authentic field-aged character with a few minor condition notes, including a small frayed wear spot on the red floral border fabric and localized light yellowish storage staining on the backing as shown in the detailed close-up photographs. It serves as a spectacular collectible example of early American folk textile art, a beautiful layering choice for bedding, or an excellent decorative accent for rustic country lodging staging. Please review all the provided full layout, border detailing, and backing stain photographs to carefully evaluate the stitch consistency, pattern variegation, and exact cosmetic state of this piece.
