ca. Late 19th century; Possibly American, revival period oval ball footed trinket or sewing chest. The oval lift lid chest has a mahogany body, pine or douglass fir bottom with mahogany single board lid. The lid is on single cast steel butt hinge with fine rosewood veneers with line inlay bone-ivory. The lid has fine crotch veneer center and beautifully accented with bone-ivory inlay of trailing leaf outer band, pearl and bands interior band, bone ivory veneered lid union, spear pattern key escutcheon and four mounted turned rosewood flattened ball feet. The interior has mahogany divider with five small compartments; 11 1/2"x 8"x 4"H; Condition: One foot is a later era turned replacement. Front left foot is damaged and glue repaired. The interior cloth or wallpaper liner is removed to allow seeing of construction. Box appears to have another turned foot under hinge point that is missing.
