ca. Dated 1923; Arthur D. Williams (1867-1927) was a resident of Nantucket Island. He learned the basket making tradition from the great William Appleton. Williams continued the tradition of "Light-Ship Baskets" on land at 120 Orange St. in Nantucket. The small basket has a maple turned bottom, laid in as staves with rattan weavers, split-rod and lashed rim with fine bentwood loose handle on copper hanger with copper pin hinge and bottom retaining original maker's handwritten label and print dated on wood; 6 1/4" dia. 5" H (handle down); Condition: clear coat finish. Good to excellent condition.
