RARE One of a King Hand Painted and Carved Black Americana Folk Art Whirli-Gig Created by Listed Outsider Artist Kent Gutzmer , Hand Carved and Signed to Bottom Kent Gutzmer, 2017 NO. 1, Measuring 28" Tall x 15" Wide Without formal training, Gutzmer developed a visual language built from repetition, handwork, and a sharp instinct for character. His subjects range from Bugs Bunny and Betty Boop to jockeys and jesters, Santas and Uncle Sam, to busts, flags, and jointed figurines. Kent Gutzmer, a self-taught folk artist whose carved figures, whirligigs, weather vanes, and mixed-media sculptures carry the force of memory, humor, and American vernacular craft. His sculptures often combine wood carving with found objects, giving each piece an aged, improvised quality. That mix of precision and oddity is what makes the work feel personal, regional, and difficult to mistake for anyone else’s. Gutzmer's work regularly appears at auctions due his prolificacy in the 1990s and early 2000s, including a 32" tall Abe Lincoln that sold in 2013 for $5,700. His pieces have been featured in magazines such as Country Living, Country Accents, Antique Trader, The Northern Collector, and many others.
