This late 19th-century schoolgirl needlework sampler is executed in red and blue-grey cross-stitch on a cream linen ground. The composition features doubled alphabet rows, numbers, and geometric borders, terminating with the maker's name,Mary Haig, and her age of nine years. It is dated 1897 and presented within a dark wood frame with a modern paper backing and wire hanging assembly. Frame measures 12.5 x 15 inches.The linen substrate exhibits significant fraying and irregular edges on all sides.
