Both are early-20th century. The first was made from a Diamond Match shipping crate and was found locally in Pennsylvania. When the slide lid is pulled back it releases a snake meant to scare the unsuspecting holder. The second box is an example of POW art as it was made by a Russian prisoner of war in Germany in 1914 during WWI. The translation is "In memory of the Russian prisoners".
