This is a very nice piece of advertising history. During the mid 20th century, retail jewelers relied heavily on elaborate point of sale displays supplied directly by diamond distributors and ring manufacturers. These specialized sample cases allowed traveling Salesman and storefront jewelers to present specific ring series such as the treasure series seen here in an organized and luxurious manner. The interior lining typically utilized velvet or simulated satin to accentuate the sparkle of the mounted gemstones while protecting the metal bands from wear. Branded displays like this one served as both functional organizers and powerful marketing tools on the merchants counter. Names given to individual ring slots corresponded to specific styles or cutting grades available in the manufacturers catalog at the time. Today these advertising display pieces are highly sought after by collectors of vintage retail memorabilia, and store fixtures.
