Late 19th to early 20th-century American utilitarian stoneware shoulder jug with a 5-gallon capacity. Straight-sided cylindrical body featuring a pronounced stepped shoulder, short molded spout, and a heavy applied strap handle. Two-tone glaze finish consisting of a dark brown Albany slip domed top over an off-white Bristol-glazed lower body with natural glaze dripping at the shoulder transition. Stenciled with a cobalt blue numeral "5" flanked by stylized three-leaf clover/trefoil florets. Features an incised/impressed potter's mark on the shoulder collar adjacent to the spout. Unglazed flat bottom with wire-cut base. Measures approximately 18" high by 11.5" base diameter.
