Monumental and rare Doulton Burslem "Watteau" flow blue and white umbrella stand, circa 1892-1900. Decoration includes classic courting scenes ensconced with flower and scroll borders, design based on the works of Jean-Antoine Watteau, a 17th century French painter who revived interest in the Baroque style and credited with inventing the genre of fates galantes in painting. The "Watteau" design was used primarily for tableware with larger pieces being unusual, marked "Watteau Doulton Burslem England". Overall excellent condition, has just a very slight hairline in top rim as shown. Doulton Burslem later became Royal Doulton starting in 1901. A rare opportunity. Photos are part of the description.
