The lid has a significant crack extending from the rim upward toward the center, along with scratches, scuffs, surface wear, and other age-related marks. The interior and underside have unfinished wood surfaces with additional wear and discoloration. Please review all photographs carefully for the complete condition. Hand-carved wooden covered jar or container with natural variation in the wood coloration and a dark sculptural finial believed to represent a cashew nut, or caju. The exact maker, wood species, and intended use are unknown. Based on the collection history, this piece is believed to be of South American, possibly Brazilian origin. The consignor traveled extensively through South America and Brazil, and other pieces from the same collection have been associated with northeastern Brazil. The cashew motif is also strongly associated with Brazil, particularly the northeastern region. Measures approximately 10-1/2 inches tall overall. An unusual piece of hand-carved folk-style woodwork with a distinctive cashew-form finial. Browse the additional lots from Treasure State Auctions in this online auction on HiBid.
