This cast bronze sculpture, after a design by Jean-Antoine Houdon (After), depicts the figure of Cupid in a dynamic running pose. The work features a bi-color finish, with a bright gilt-bronze body and limbs contrasted by a dark, verdigris-patinated treatment applied to the wings, hair, and base. Cupid is shown holding a bow in his left hand and wears a floral wreath in his hair. At the feet of the figure, a pair of doves rests upon a textured, integral rocky base decorated with foliate motifs. The base is incised with the signature HOUDON. Condition: The sculpture displays a well-preserved gilt surface with light wear and minor rubbing consistent with age. There is visible green oxidation and verdigris patination on the hair, wings, and base, much of which appears to be intentional to the design. The cast bronze elements, including the bow and wings, are structurally sound. A piece of green adhesive tape is currently attached to the figure.
